1st Post as an Independent Skier - summer training and what’s next

One of the many ways to combine sports and enjoy the high mountains around Aspen, Colorado

Howdy!

THANK YOU so much for your support of my skiing endeavor!  I’ve raised 70% of the estimated total season cost and I couldn’t be more grateful for everyone’s support in every way. With my season officially starting this week, here is an update of the summer and what’s to come this winter.

The past 6 months of training have flown by and I’m currently flying to Canada now  Definitely feeling the fittest I have ever been and the strongest skier I have ever been with over 400 hours of ski specific training in the books since May 15th.  Nearly 1000 miles of biking, 1000 miles of roller-skiing, 500 miles of running and 68 weight room sessions.  It has been a summer of checking off some CO bucket list mountain adventures as part of training and learning more about my body, physiology, psychology, metabolism, recovery, training plan design, etc… than ever before.

Footage of the Maroon Creek Double Pole Time Trial. A great intensity session of summer training.

Over the summer the pieces of my winter race plan came together as well.  My hometown ski club, the Aspen Valley Ski Club, has started an elite skiing program with me as the first athlete.  The program director, August Teague (formerly a world cup coach for Team Australia) is very excited to have an elite skier around and the club has been an amazing resource during the dryland season.  They are supporting me with race service for the beginning of the season through national championships.  After nationals, I have partnered with the Sun Valley Gold team for hopefully the rest of the Super Tour circuit and back with Aspen for Super Tour Finals.  The advising on my training and access to facilities has been hugely helpful here at home.  Rossignol has supplied a small fleet of World Cup skis for me as well.  I will be racing in the Aspen uniform, on all Rossignol equipment and hoping to close the deal on a head gear sponsor by the end of the season.

My goal is top 5 over all ranking on the Super Tour circuit by the end of the season. Lofty goal, but its what I’m aiming for! My goal will be re-evaluated and refined after nationals (after the first 12 races of the season) to determine the exact schedule of the rest of the season.  The race schedule through nationals is below.  Some races will be available for life streaming and I will email out links when I get them.

Once again, I cannot thank you all enough for your support, in every way.  Leaving Jackson, coaching, the Tetons and embarking on the most regimented and structured life style and goals I have ever set has been tough.  No doubt about it.  But having all of you a part of the journey makes it a lot easier and a lot more fun.

Cheers,

Scott
